Question of the Day:What is the one materialistic item that you wouldn’t be able to live without? (For me, it’s my piano! I love making music. Or my laptop! It let’s me do everything =D)
What with my first day of spring semester classes looming ahead (this Friday, eek!), I have to buy my textbooks, get a jump start on my reading assignments, start packing (*sniff*), having my last couple of homemade meals, and other college-student-y things like that. I probably won’t get the chance to post again until Saturday or so due to all the busy-ness (Ha! Like “busi-ness”, get it?) I have. Don’t worry though, I shall still be commenting. :)
Be sure to take this opportunity to vote on my poll to the left. I’d love all the feedback I can get to know how I can improve my blog in this year 2011! In addition, if you haven’t already, it would be great if you could fill out the Rate & Review Form. It is short and sweet, and here you can finally tell me anything you want about what you want me to do differently on the blog…no hard feelings, I promise!
Now, here is probably my absolute favorite commercial of all time. I’ve seen it at least seven times through Hulu and on television, and NEVER get tired of it. That’s all I shall say…a-hem. Here is the commercial, and you can decide what you think for yourselves. :)
**If you can’t see the whole video (my apologies if that happens!), then GO HERE to see the YouTube video of the commercial.
Hurray! I just discovered that this is my 100th post! :D Also, welcome to any new followers. It is lovely to have you here reading my little words…
Question of the Day: What is your favorite holiday song? Among my favorites are Last Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, and Do You Hear What I Hear.
Now that the Christmas season is over, it is almost time to count down…..2011 is almost here! Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? Or are you still trying to think of a goal that you can, well, actually commit to? Making a resolution is hard, and sticking to it is even harder.
Personally, I love New Year’s resolutions. What better way to begin a brand new year than with a newfound determination to improve yourself for the better as a person? I’ve listed five steps that I’ve used for the past few years that are guaranteed to help you choose a resolution that is both bold and possible.
Question of the Day:If you had to choose, would you rather deal with really hot or really cold weather?
I’d just like to answer my own QOTD for a moment and make a case as to why I’d rather deal with really cold weather. Well, personally I get nauseous in the heat and just like cool weather in general. My practical argument is the fact that you can always put on more clothes if you’re cold. When you’re in the sweltering heat, though, you can’t just…like, peel off your skin. :/
Aaaanyway. On to today’s post! x)
In China, when the youth got cold during the wintertime they would do anything they could to work out, exercise, move their body. Stay active. One of the most popular sports that they would play was with the shuttlecock, or as the Chinese call it, thejianzi.
You can buy one for yourself HERE or you can make your own!
Question of the Day:What is the best gift you’ve ever received? What’s the best gift you’ve ever given to someone else?
Here it is, yet another Christmas just around the corner. The fam’s perking up, what with all the festive decorations and big meal plans. You’ve got the toy trains ready for your nephews, the Barbie dolls for your nieces, the journals for your aunts and the wallets for your uncles. But nada for your sister, brother, Mom, Dad, immediate family.
You feel like you’ve bought it all in the past. Movies, books, lotions, golf clubs, candlesticks. What about this year? No clue. It’s like all the gift ideas have been sucked out of you. And there’s…what, five days left? Four? Dang it!
Question of the Day:What’s your favorite thing to do during a cold, wintery day? Do you like to snuggle up by the fireplace reading your favorite book (a bit cliche, I know), or would you prefer hitting the slopes to go skiing or snowboarding?
Question of the Day: What’s the weather like where you are?
Within the last couple of posts, I mentioned a significant quote:
“In the midst of winter, I found within me an invincible summer.”
—Albert Camus
As December continues on, we will all become deeply entrenched within the chill of winter and the weather will get colder by the day. Studies have shown that people’s moods tend to go downhill during the winter season, possibly because of the absence of sunlight and because the days become shorter and darker more quickly. If you ever find yourself feeling down in the dumps, here are a few ways to get back in high spirits:
Question of the Day:What would YOU wear to the Yule Ball (yes, another Harry Potter Reference)?
I literally just got back from .:Black Friday shopping:. about two seconds ago! I am SO pumped about my amazing purchases….in fact, I am SUPER EXCITED!!! We were only able to stay for about two hours or so and spent that whole time at JC Penny. They had the best sales going on and everything was discounted 30%-70% off. Totally worth getting up early!
One week ago, I signed for “The Intercollegiate Yule Ball,” a local semi-formal dance especially for college students around the area to attend. It’s based after the yule ball in Harry Potter and takes place Dec. 4. Thanks to Black Friday, I now have two more dresses to add to my wardrobe. As a rather petite, pixie-like little lady, it is extremely hard for me to find dresses and gowns that fit me well. By some miracle, I was able to find TWO today, and now I can’t decide which one to wear to the Yule Ball! What do you think?
Question of the Day: If you could be any Magical Creature (ex: thestral, unicorn, Doxy, hippogriff, etc.), what would you want to be and why?
“They stuff people’s heads down the toilet the first day at Stonewall. Want to come upstairs and practice?”–Dudley Dursley
“No thanks. The poor toilet’s never had anything as horrible as your head down it — it might be sick.” –Harry Potter, Book 1
3 Days Until Harry Potter #7 Part 1
Because I will be a hosting my Harry Potter contest tomorrow, I thought I’d make today’s post rather “chill” and laid-back.
First, major news! The cast of Harry Potter got together in London last Thursday on November 11 for their premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. They look absolutely stunning! Emma Watson’s pixie ‘do still shocks me…I don’t think I can ever get over it after all those years of seeing her “bush” Hermione-Grangery mane. Ohh, without a doubt, our beloved HP characters are truly growing up…
#DailyWings: “It takes courage to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol.” — Brené Brown Wow. It feels so surreal to be writing for my blog again, but here I am. My life is vastly different now than it was a year ago. I started a new position as a […]
#DailyWings: “I’m a story-teller. I tell stories. In some stories, I am the story. But the story transcends me. How? Hear my stories.” –Guy at your J-school Happy November! It’s taken me a while, but I’ve finally finished putting together this blog post about my experiences at Columbia Journalism School (as promised), along with several nuggets […]
#DailyWings: “All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” ― Charles M. Schulz I am really excited about today’s edition of “The SELF Diet,” mainly because this was the first dish that made me actually love cooking. This dish, a lemon-garlic spaghetti piccata, was inspired by a recipe for “Linguine with Tuna, […]
#DailyWings: “Life has many ways of testing a person’s will, either by having nothing happen at all or by having everything happen all at once.” -Paulo Coelho A person’s mood is like the waves of an ocean, a cosine graph. It fluctuates in a gradual manner. We all have our bad days, brought forth by a […]
