#50: My Return From China

Question of the Day: What is the farthest you’ve ever travelled before?

MONTH-LONG HIATUS IS OVER!!!

You can imagine how alarmed I felt when I connected to the Internet in our cozy little place in Shanghai, China and found out that Blogspot, along with several other sites like Facebook and Youtube, was blocked off!! What’s more, my beloved Pandora refused to work, saying it could no longer provide service to me since I was outside of the USA. :(

Thus, my daily blogging ritual (and other Internet rituals except for email) was put to a halt for an entire month.

But, as you can see, I back now! HURRAY! *fireworks* Did you miss me? =D Well, I must say that I missed you all, and am so happy to see that none of you gave up on my blog, despite my sudden disappearance.

To put it very simply, my vacation in China was…BUSY! I kept a journal of events for -almost- every day we were away and now the pages are all filled up. We stayed for 1 week less than we usually do, and therefore had to cram all of our to-do’s, to-go’s, and to-eat’s all in just a matter of approximately 3.857 weeks, according to my handy-dandy Blackberry calculator.

I cannot possibly copy my entire leaflet of records into my blog, so here’s a rough breakdown of what I did, week by week:

Ten Things You Don’t Know About Me

Question of the Day: Twilight or Harry Potter or neither? (Yes, I just had to bring this subject up, hehe)

Happy Wednesday–no, no, I mean Thursday, everybody! :D This always happens during the summertime. Now that I don’t have school and other activities (sluggish Mondays, Piano Lesson Tuesdays, you get the idea) to distinguish my days between weekdays and weekends, they just all sort of blend together. Now, I have to look twice on the calendar to know what day it is. Do you guys have this problem too when you’re on vacation?

Today feels like a pretty chillax day, so I’m going to keep this post equally laid-back and devote it to letting you guys get to know me better. Thanks to Amanda Sablan for tagging me:

The 411 On College Orientation

Question of the Day: What brand of water do you drink? Do you think the different brands really matter all that much?

Sorry for the lateness! Orientation really wore me out and so I’ve just been resting the past couple of days. I can’t really sum up all the puzzle pieces that make up College Orientation in just one blog post, so I’ll briefly go over just a few of the highlights:

1) The first day was all about preparation for the second day (aka Registration for Classes Day).

2) It was literally session after session after session…two hours on alcohol abuse, thirty minutes on meal plans and dining services, one point five hours on campus safety. Don’t get me wrong, all that stuff is important and I learned a lot, but honestly, after that fifth session of simply sitting in my seat in the Auditorium and nothing else, my legs were about to start jerking and convulsing at any second.

Summer 2010 Has Begun! + College Orientation

Question of the Day: What’s the best vacation you’ve ever been on? What made it so awesome?

I haven’t updated recently because I’ve been studying my tush off for the SAT Subject Test: Math Level 2. It’s been difficult since AP Exams are over and everybody has been getting ready for the summer…and I’ve been at school reviewing my flashcards with the volume of a Pyramid and trigonometry identities. But alas–it’s over!! After studying and stressing for so long, the end of the test came as quite a shock. I came over and realized…wow, I can finally start reading Self magazine again. I can finish reading The Mill on the Floss by George Eliot and then begin a new novel. I can play chess again during my spare time. Yay!

Happy Memorial Day! + Frankie’s Blog Contest

Question of the Day: What are you doing to celebrate Memorial Day?

For those of you living in America, Happy Memorial Day! Big thanks to those who currently serve or have served our great country. You are our heroes. Unfortunately, I had school because we’d originally taken an extra Snow Day during the winter time, so today was our makeup day. On a brighter note, today was also a half-day, so I am home early! Yay!

101st Annual American Association of Cancer Research Meeting

Question of the Day: What was the last vacation you went on, and how did it go?

I have not abandoned my beloved blog, for those of you who were wondering!
I am currently in Washington, D.C. attending the 101st AACR Meeting with my parents.
It’s been amazing seeing the different exhibits, posters, and products used for lab work.
I am probably one of the few people younger than 25 here at this meeting.
Some people have mistaken me for a post-graduate/graduate student.
But that’s okay with me!
I also got to see The White House up close,
The American Red Cross Headquarters, Washington Memorial, and more!!
Will be back in town on Thursday.
Pictures will be added then.
As will a new character profile.

China’s One-Child Policy

Question of the Day: After reading this blog entry, what is your personal stance on China’s one-child policy?

I usually don’t write about politics, but recently my AP Government Comparative class studied China’s public policy. One of the biggest issues we discussed was China’s infamous one-child policy. I would like to address both the pros and the cons of the policy and then discuss my own position on this matter. Feel free to support, qualify, or refute my position or create your own stance by commenting below. Any feedback is welcome! All information below is either through my own personal knowledge that I have gained from my AP Government class or from Wikipedia. ;]

Basic Overview: China has had a communist regime since 1949 when Mao Zhedong took control after defeating the Kuomingtang. Everything, including the media and economy, has been controlled by the government. In recent years, China HAS taken some steps towards a more democratic state but definitely cannot be officially titled as a “liberal democracy.” There is no doubt that the government has severely oppressed the citizens of China in numerous ways, including the one-child policy. The one-child policy states that a couple may not have more than one child, excluding some situations such as minority families or parents with no siblings. The consequences of violating this law usually consist of drastic punishments, ranging from alarmingly high fees to forceful abortion.

G’Day Fellow Bliggity Bloggers!

Question of the Day: What do you enjoy the most about springtime?

I apologize for my lack of bliggity blogging* the past few days. I have finally decided what I want to do with my life! After much pondering and discussing with my family, I have chosen which university I would be attending for the next four years of my life. HURRAY! Thus, my little transition into college has officially started, but it’s come with A LOT of To-Do’s.

I will be majoring in Journalism & Mass Communication and minoring in Psychology.

I will also be a premedical student.

I hope to become a gastrointestinal doctor as well as journalist for either a cultural magazine, a healthy living magazine (maybe Self!), and/or a medical journal.

It’s the busy life for me! :]

The Last Monday of March

Question of the Day: What or who inspires you to succeed and be the best that you can be?
This is the last Monday of March, 2010! It is remarkably scary how fast time is flying. I am already on my 30th blog post! Thankfully, I do not have any school due to Teacher Workday, so today is going to be pretty laid-back and more personal than usual. I won’t get into any hardcore topics but will instead post a “Monday Five” list. This is usually meant for Friday (“Friday Five!”) but oh well. If you are not familiar with this type of list, it is mainly discussing five specific areas or aspects of one’s life at the current state. Great way to wrap up the weekend and start a 4-Day School Week!
