30-Day Challenge 24: “Why I Write YA” Blogfest

Question of the Day: Why do YOU write (or read) YA?

Day 24: What are five things you like about yourself?

1) I am extremely compassionate and empathetic towards people who are struggling through difficult situations, especially if they are health-related.

2) I like having a quirky obsession with Smallville, Superman, and comics in general; I actually don’t know many girls who enjoy comics and superheroes.

3) My love for writing makes me feel happy and purposeful every single day; why wouldn’t I like a trait that makes me happy?

4) I think that my ability to be extremely self-aware prevents me from going insane on a daily basis; I’m glad that I can keep up with my thoughts and feelings, compartmentalize them in my mind, and take control over them before they take over me

5) Family and the people I care about are number one. Because I have met some extremely appalling people in my life who don’t really practice the good habit of putting themselves in others’ shoes, the kind and genuine individuals whom have I had the good fortune to meet, befriend and now love are very important to me. I do and would do anything for them.

30-Day Challenge 23: The Secrets to a Hot Blog

Question of the Day: Today, I’d like to know what you think of my blog layout. I need your critique, your feedback! Should I stick with it? Is the foreground a little too narrow? What can I do to make my blog appearance more attractive to my readers’ eyes?

Day 23: Something you crave for a lot. Oh my!! I will definitely have to say my craving for Smartfood popcorn is rather alarming and sempiternal. This popcorn has been my #1 go-to snack since before my age had double digits.

Today I’d like to talk about what makes a hot blog…..hot. Look on your Blog Profile, scroll down to your List of Blogs. What about those blogs made you want to follow them in the first place? Was it the colorful layout, the sexy font, the helpful content in posts, or perhaps the unique blog name?

I wouldn’t call myself picky, but there are some absolute musts in my rulebook that, when I look at a blog, make me want to go ‘w-o-w-z-a gimme summa dat!’, and hit ‘Follow.’

Check out these tips I’ve gathered during my time as a blogger, think about what attracts you to a blog, and ask yourself:

Does your blog need a makeover? Or is it one of the hottest blogs on the block?

30-Day Challenge 22: Summer Reading List

Question of the Day: What books have you read this year so far (not that I need any more on my To Be Read List!)

Day 22: What do you see yourself doing in ten years? Oh my, 28 years old is hard to think about when I can hardly believe I am almost 19 (mark your calendars, June 22 is coming up people…just kidding haha). Hopefully, I will be living comfortably in Boston, married to the love of my life, and working for a hot shot magazine or newspaper. Self? Elle? Time? Boston Globe? I live to dream big and dream on until dreams = reality.

One of my 2011 Resolutions is to complete the 24-Book Challenge. I didn’t read nearly as much last year as I would have liked to and should have, so I’ve been trying to make up for that since New Years’. What makes summer so amazing for me is that suddenly I have all this comely free time to do things I never had time to do during the school year–and that includes READING. :D

So what’s on my Summer Reading List? My goal is to read eight out of the twenty-four.

30-Day Challenge 18: Laughter Is the Best Medicine Blogfest

Question of the Day: What are two smileys that describe your life right now?

Day 18: The question above!

d(^_^)b is supposed to portray a happy person doing thumbs up! I have been enjoying all this free time away from school and nothing could be better. Since I am traveling for the last half of summer, I’ve been trying to spend this first half of summer learning more and getting to know more about myself. During the school year, I was always surrounded by people and was constantly either going to events or studying in the library. Now, I’m trying to take this opportunity to revisit what I personally like, what makes me happy, and all-around who I am when I’m by myself. Besides–everyone has to mentally recharge before going on another adventure!

8-/ is supposed to represent a nerd. I’ve been digging myself into books and writing and Smallville lately, cooped up in the bedroom that I’ve missed for over eight months. I probably sound a bit pathetic, but like I said above I’m enjoying this downtime. I have been catching up with all the things that I wasn’t able to do during the school year-especially read, write, and watch movies. I’m having a rather “nerdy summer,” but I’m loving it. :)

Let’s See That “Inanimation”!

QOTD: If you could be any inanimate object, what would you choose to be and why?

YAYY!!! I have been dreaming of this moment every single night for exactly thirty-seven days (total exaggeration is required to emphasize the excitement boiling inside of me right now).

It’s finally time for “Inanimation”!!! Let’s create our own Toy Stories, breathe life into those lost and forgotten dusty pieces of old furniture in our attics, and make kitchen utensils dance and sing as they make your favorite chicken pot pie!

As a short recap, here is the blogfest task:

The idea is to write an entry of NO MORE THAN 1000 words that somehow incorporates the personification of inanimate objects. It can be a poem, a short short, a letter (perhaps to your favorite childhood toy?), a fairytale, a scene from a dream, or even a song–anything you want! It can be something you’ve written in the past or it could be totally brand new…it’s all up to you!

30-Day Challenge 17: I Forgive You, Blogger

QOTD: Yes, I must ask this worldwide debatable question…e-books or print books?

Day 17: Someone you would want to switch lives with for one day and why. I kind of like my life, but if I had to switch lives for a day I’d probably swipe with J.K. Rowling. I’d get to be pals with Harry Freaking Potter & Co. (or at least the corresponding actors) and see what it’s like to be a world-renowned writer. Then, I could check off 2/134982019321 life goals of mine.

As most of you know, Blogger was under maintenance for 20.5 hours. You can view The Blogger Team’s message here at the Blogger Buzz. The first day Blogger was down, I kind of shrugged and let it go. Then starting yesterday afternoon I began to bite my nails excessively–a habit that I was supposed to have broken back in middle school–and checked Blogger’s Homepage EVERY hour. Okay, I admit it…I was starting to freak out. I mean, my very first “Inanimation” Blogfest is just a day away. I was afraid that this maintenance issue would continue on through tomorrow, and then what would become of my blogfest?

Interview: An Evening With Writer Jordan-Marie Smith

Today we have Jordan-Marie Smith from Where Lies My Tarp? here with us to talk about her thoughts on the writing process and what her source of creativity comes from. I have known Jordan since the near beginning of high school, and she is simply AWESOME.

JMS will be graduating from high school in June. She will be attending American University in the fall with a major in International Relations and a minor in Journalism. Jordan enjoys writing various short stories and poetry (both fiction and non-fiction), all of which come from experiences that she has gone through in reality. When it comes to writing, it is her wish that readers will be able to “feel the weight of the characters’ emotions”. Her favorite color is black.

100-Followers Blogfest: “Inanimation”

Question of the Day: After the release of her newest album, Femme Fatale, and recent publicity, do you think Britney Spears is really “coming back” or do you feel that all this is just a desperate want and need to go back to her glory days in the ’90s?

So a few days ago, it came to my attention that…..I HAVE FINALLY REACHED 100 FOLLOWERS!!! Well, I’m sure you could easily guess that my first reaction was: EEK!!!! My second reaction was…PARTY TIME!!! I mean, I knew this HAD to call for some sort of celebration. And so therefore I present to you….

Delay in My Nature of Blogfest Entry and Blogging In General

Question of the Day: How do YOU apologize to your readers for seemingly abandoning your blogging and then randomly returning?

To answer my own Question of the Day…..I give my readers a bit of eye candy! Doesn’t this cupcake look sweet? I think the Tooth Fairy would have a Field Day over one of these…

Okay, okay, I won’t avoid the main subject anymore. I deeply apologize for my lack of blog entries and for the delay in my Nature of Blogfest entry! The past week and a half have been extremely hectic; for some reason, college professors want to hoard as much work on their students as possible the week after spring break. I won’t list all the to-do’s and do-that’s I have had (okay, well maybe my killer Economics midterm is worth noting), but I just wanted to let it be known that, well, I’ve had a lot on my plate. Plus, my poor blog isn’t the only thing I have neglected due to school…I have yet to clean my room (as of right now it is filled with scrunched up pieces of scratch paper and leftover snacks), wash my turtle tank and a number of other things I’ve been putting off.
