Question of the Day: What is your favorite type of muffin?
So my boyfriend came to visit me this weekend. Yay! We made muffins and tacos, and of course I took photos of them. I’ll be posting them up soon so you can see. :)
Anywhoodles, I have been on a little hunt to find the best free Smartphone applications, or “apps.” I mean, the whole nation is gradually turning towards the amazing iPhones, Blackberrys, and even Android Xs. Personally, I think the coolest thing about these phones are their apps…there are hundreds out there, each with its own function and purpose.
I browsed through over 100 apps to find ten of the very best.
Dun, dun, dun! Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the TRA winners of this year’s 2010 Smartphone Application Awards, in no particular order…
Pandora: Best radio EVER. You can pick your own “stations” based on the type of music, artist, or song you type in. With this app, you’ll be able to listen to your favorites AND discover tons of other songs that you can be guaranteed to love!
Translator: A simply name for a simple app, but with remarkable functions. If you’re an avid traveler or are learning a multiple number of languages, then this app is for you! Just choose from over 35 languages, type in a phrase…and get the translation! Extremely accurate and easy to use.
DailyHoroscope: This is nothing short of creepy and clairvoyant. I downloaded this about five months ago when I first got my new Blackberry, and not a day has gone by where I don’t check it and find my horoscope to be true or come true later on that day in some way. My sister also checked it out and found it to be fascinating, so she downloaded it as well! You can find the horoscope for each sign, not just your own. In addition to the different advice you’ll get each day, you will also find a short passage that explains exactly what sort of character your sign is. Cancer all the way!
SparkRecipes: No matter what sort of meal you are looking for (whether it be a vegan brunch, a low-carb dish, German speciality, or a simple side dish), “Sparky” has it all. You can choose to start at a certain category, such as Occasion, Cuisine, or Dietary Needs and instantly begin browsing through loads of recipes that meet your requirements. Or you can just put in a word like “cheese” (MMM!!! CHEESE!!!) or a phrase like “chocolate muffins” into the Search box and find what you’re looking for.
Politico: Political junkies will love this one…you’ll get the latest news stories the moment that they’re published and posted. Best source of unbiased news. Now, you can take the newspaper wherever you go! (Except in the shower, I suppose.)
Brick (FREE!): Colorful, epic sound effects, addicting. Seriously, when I was on my
vacation in China this past summer, this was my main source of entertainment during “late nights in Shanghai” when jet lag took over me. There are BLANK levels for the regular mode and one demo of Brick Breaker Revolution. Of course, this is the free version…if you pay, you’ll get a whole lot more levels. ;)
The Weather Channel: Extremely helpful when you’re pressed for time or on-the-go. Type in your location and automatically get the weather conditions for up to 10 days. It will also give you Chance of Precipitation and the High/Low temps.
Shakespeare: To add or not to add this app? I say add! You can wow your friends (or annoy them, you pick! haha) with famous quotes from the most famous writer of medieval times. This app will give you various short excerpts to all the works of Shakespeare as well as a Glossary and specific Quotes Search engine. Romeo and Juliet, anyone?
Flashlight by AppProShop: Choose from 8 lovely colors (White, Blue, Cyan, Green, Magenta, Red, Orange and Purple) or a rainbow of them to light your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night. You can also control the intensity/brightness of the light in case you want to be extra cautious about walking into walls or making sure it doesn’t catch the eye of your film analysis professor as you try to do other schoolwork while watching Modern Times.
MyFitnessPal – Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker: What I like about this pal is that it’s aimed towards anybody who is trying to maintain a good diet, not just those who are trying to lose (or gain) weight. Create your personal weight goal and track the number of calories you gain from eating and the number of calories you lose by exercising. Plus there’s a WHOLE bunch of foods, both store-bought and restaurant-made, that you can choose from!
(Tip: Look up your BMI, or Body Mass Index, and the amount of calories and each vitamin/mineral you should consume per day at

Chocolate chocalate chip. Though it’s hardly a muffin. It’s a small…cake, really.
Those apps look sweet. I like the diet one. May have to get that one so I don’t eat too many chocochocochip muffins.
I’ve developed a serious liking for banana chocolate chip muffins lately :)
And those are some pretty neat apps!
def. like the pandora and flashlight apps. other apps i like are the currency converter app, tip calculator app, and the useless facts app.
